Beyond the track: JISDO for everyday movers

Elite athletes set the benchmark for performance, but most people who wear JISDO are runners, riders, players and gym regulars working towards their own goals. This article explains why we design for the whole range of people who move, what that means in practice and how we try to make good clothing available to all of them.

It is also a statement of intent. We are a sportswear brand, and sport is for everyone who wants to take part.

One standard for everyone

We give the person at the back of the pack the same attention to fit, comfort and durability as the one at the front. In some ways they deserve more, because they spend longer in their clothes. A marathon runner finishing in six hours is moving for three times as long as one finishing in two, and every irritation counts for three times as much.

Every garment is cut and tested to work across a wide range of body shapes and sizes. Patterns are graded carefully, and we test with people of different shapes, ages and levels of fitness, so the performance of a garment does not depend on being a particular size.

Built for real life

Training clothes get worn to the gym, on the commute and on the weekend. We design pieces that move easily from sport to everyday life without losing their performance. The result is clothing that is used more often, which is good for the wearer and good for the environment.

The cuts are simple and the styling is restrained, so the garments work in many settings. A tee that is comfortable in a long run is just as comfortable at a desk, and a jacket that handles a cold training session handles the walk to the station too.

Listening to the people who wear us

We learn the most from ordinary users. Their feedback tells us about the problems that never occur in a lab: a waistband that rolls on the commute, a pocket that does not fit a phone, a colour that fades after a few washes. We ask for that feedback and use it.

Our wear trials include beginners, casual runners, social cyclists and people returning to exercise after time away, as well as club athletes and competitors. Each group gives us different insights, and together they make our clothing better for everyone.

Inclusion and access

Good sportswear should be available to everyone who wants to move. That means offering a wide range of sizes and fits, designing garments that are comfortable and functional for different body types, and making sure information about our products is clear and honest.

It also means thinking about access beyond the product. We work with retail partners who offer expert fitting, and we are exploring ways to support grassroots clubs and community groups, who bring people into sport who might not otherwise take part.

Clubs and communities

Running groups, cycling clubs, school teams and community leagues are the heart of everyday sport. They offer friendship, structure and encouragement, and they make exercise easier to keep up. We want to support them with kit that is practical, durable and well made, and with partnerships that suit their needs.

If you run a club, team or community group and would like to talk about kit or events, use the contact page and choose the athlete and team partnership topic.

What it means for design

Designing for everyday movers pushes us to think differently. We think about comfort at the start of a session as well as at the end, about the clothes people wear when they are not at their best, and about how a garment makes someone feel as well as how it performs. Confidence matters as much as speed.

A shared ambition

We want more people to enjoy moving. If our clothing makes it a little easier, a little more comfortable or a little more fun, we have done something worthwhile. Whatever your sport, your level or your goal, we would like to hear from you.

Stories from the people who wear JISDO

Our testers include a nurse who runs before a night shift, a courier who commutes by bike, a teacher who coaches a school football team and a retired engineer who has taken up trail running. Each has different needs, and each has taught us something. The nurse showed us how much a quiet, comfortable layer matters at five in the morning. The courier explained why a jacket must pack small and cope with rain. The teacher reminded us that kit needs to survive a lot of washing. The engineer asked for pockets that actually hold a phone.

None of these people is an elite athlete, and all of them have improved our products.

Questions about how we work

Do you make clothing for people who are new to sport?

Yes. Many of our garments are designed with beginners in mind, with comfortable fits, simple styling and fabrics that are easy to care for. A beginner needs a good start as much as anyone, and good kit can make it easier to keep going.

Do you offer a wide range of sizes?

We offer a broad size range and keep working to widen it. Our patterns are graded and tested across sizes so the fit stays consistent. If you cannot find a size that works for you, tell us. We take every message seriously.

How can I give feedback?

Use the contact page, or speak to your local retailer. Both routes reach our design team. Even short comments are useful, and we respond to as many as we can.

What happens next

We will continue to design for the widest range of people, test with real users and listen to what they say. Over time, we expect this to lead to better products, a broader range and a more welcoming brand. We look forward to seeing where that takes us, and to hearing from you.
